Last Saturday we trained staff and volunteers who work at the domestic violence shelter in areas such as self-defense, active shooter response, emergency first aid, personal security, and verbal de-escalation techniques. Here at FYO we believe in utilizing a hands-on and interactive approach. Drills and scenario based training is our model. We also presented each volunteer with an individual panic alarm with LED light. Here are some of the comments written down on the feedback cards by some of the individuals we trained:
“Training session was outstanding! The hands-on exercises was so helpful”
“Awesome class! Very interactive. The staff were all personable and fun. It’s apparent they love what they do. Keep up the great work and thank you!”
“I am glad you trained us on active shooter situations, personal safety, deescalation, and emergency medical response. The training will be useful for me not only as a domestic violence victim advocate, but as a teacher and woman as well. I will be using your techniques in my daily life for personal safety.”
“Self defense and active shooter training was awesome. Wish we had more time to learn more self-defense techniques”
“This was a great learning experience. The instructors were very informative, pleasant, and knowledgeable. The interactions and hands-on components were awesome. I’d definitely recommend this program to be held in schools and other programs like the Camden County Women’s Center.”
“Awesome presentation and presenters. Information and demonstrations were invaluable. I will share your info with various groups and institutions and will donate. Go Air Force”
“FYO foundation made me feel comfortable asking questions That may seem “dumb” or “silly”. I enjoyed the passion of the group in teaching us safety and I learned things I didn’t know.”
I participated in Saturday’s class. SO enlightening and empowering. Such good information, good ideas, and the demonstrations were fabulous. I cannot stop talking about it and telling everyone what a great thing you are doing. People say if you can just change the life of one person, you changed the lives of 50 people on Saturday. THANK YOU for what you do!
